FAT LITTLE ART BOOKS

Just a plug for Karen's Fat Little Art Book swap - if you're wondering what that is check out Karen's blog and sign up this month - costs nothing and it's heaps of fun. You can opt in or out as you please.

Here are some great examples of what fat art might look like (some people call it "chunky' art but that's way too PC for me!).

This week I am pondering the monthly topic - "It's my birthday and I'll party if I want to" - that's what we have to design our art work around. Hmmm...

A LAYOUT!

To be honest I don't scrap a whole lot these days. Oh I make heaps of stuff, off the page creations, cards, school year folders, little albums etc. But a 12x12 layout? These days that's a whole new thing.

The thing is my kids have albums and albums of 12x12 layouts and I got to thinking that it was all getting a bit ridiculous - when they leave home they'll need a truck for their scrapbooks. So I resolved a year or so ago that I'd just do 2 or 3 pages each for them a year from now on. Birthday. And a couple of pages to remind them how much they are loved.
So here's one. 12x12. For Cait.

YOU KNOW WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE

PS to yesterday's post. At noon Elliot decided he would go in the cross country, despite the doctor's advice to the contrary. So we headed off to the river to meet his entire school. E hates the cross country and doesn't do well at it so for the past couple of months D has been taking him out on Sundays to practice the course. He can now run the entire way. His time has gone from 15 minutes walking to 6:38 running the whole way. It's still quite slow compared to some of his peers but he can do it.

So yesterday, filled with a chest infection and a throat infection, Elliot ran the whole course. Slowly. D ran the last bit with him. He came 22nd. Last.

Two of the boys in his year came up to him and said
"Elliot, where did you come?"
Elliot held out his hand and showed them the '22' written in marker pen.
"Oh,"said F. "You came last."
"No," said J. "He did his own best!".

And that's why J is one of Elliot's best freinds.

WHEN YOU'RE SICK

QUESTION:
When you're 7 and you're sick and your doctor says you can't go in the school cross country because you have a chest infection and a throat infection what do you do?

ANSWER:
You stay home and annoy your mother by making art works that cover the kitchen.

I so could not be a homeschool parent. Elliot decided he'd make a space city this morning. A work in progress.

And here he is last night sharing the love (and bugs) with Maxie.

THAT REMINDS ME

Just reading Ali Edwards' blog and it reminded me. When Caitlin was about three I remember asking her what sort of work we did, to see if she had a sense about our occupations. This was her response:

"Mummy works with land information" (correct)

"Daddy works at his computer office "(sort of correct)

"and Granny. Granny goes shopping!"(bang on!)

WE SURVIVED

Cait,Victoria, Dani, Barbara

We survived Saturday night and fourteen 11-13 year olds celebrating Cait's 12th birthday. There's something to be said for having your party a week after your birthday - stretching out the fuss and the celebration.

Music quiz, eye toy games, Singstar, bracelet making, DVDs, mini samosas, spring rolls, pizza (and salad!), lollies, lots of (diet) fizz, a great icecream birthday cake made by me and a spectacular chocolate fountain (borrowed from a friend) for dessert. Pretty easy, really.

Next year we'll have a teenager!

A PENNY FOR THEM

Loved this comment Penny made on Janine's blog. I felt it shouldn't be hidden in a comment section so here it is...

"We have to remember why we scrap. I admire those who do create for Design Teams and magazines and do get inspired by their work. I see them as the “Karen Walkers” of the scrapping world - designers for scrap fashion and trends. They have a place and a purpose, and fill it very well. Whereas the likes of me - I’m the “home sewer” that creates my own fashion. Sometimes that is inspired by the scrapping greats, other times it’s purely functional. And that is ok."

Amen to that!
