IN THE OLDEN DAYS

Elliot (right) and his friend, T

In the olden days we didn't have computers in our classrooms. Computers were introduced to my school when I was in the 6th form - too late for me to learn anything about them. How strange that they would become an everyday part of my working life. And these days where would I be without my daily fix of cyber surfing, blog reading and emails?

It's different these days. In Elliot's year 3 and 4 class they get to work on Apple Mac laptops a few times each week. How cool that I was the parent helper last week when the kids discovered that each laptop has a built in camera - perfect for self-portraits.

Learning is a lot of fun these days.

sure is different! I certainly spend a lot more time at the computer and a lot less time reading ... a bit sad really. I love holding a book and turning the pages ... just not the same to read words on a screen or to type out chat instead of talking in person or on the phone.

Oh Mel one of my optional papers is ICT (info communication and technology) I am learning how to learn through ICT.I have learnt that kids learn through ICT tools such as laptops , digi cameras, etc as part of the day to day learning as opposed to learning how to use the tool, as I thought they did before I started this paper.

In the olden days I did my first assignment on computer in 4th form I think. I selected all and pressed delete by mistake. Bad move. Thats when I discovered ctrl-z. Good move.

By the time DS starts school in 2 years time I suspect a laptop is going to be on the "stationary list" he brings home...
