BAH HUMBUG

Janine has an interesting post about Christmas - talking about wants and needs.

It's timely as, much as I love Christmas, things are so busy with work and school galas and kids sport and exercise and training the puppy and gardening and a busy job and trying to get some housework done and first communion for Mr 8 next week that, well, I'm afraid Christmas is taking a backseat. I did have to race around buying gifts for my oldest friend and her family who live in Chicago (had to catch the 14 November overseas mail cutoff) but apart from that I have bought 2 gifts - out of 16 people that we buy for each year. This year it feels like a drag. I'm still surprised when I see Christmas ads on TVs - is it that time already? The reality is that this time last year I'd finished my Christmas shopping. I think I need a Christmas fairy to do my shopping for me. Actually I don't mind the shopping, it's thinking what to get. A thought fairy - now that would do.

On top of that there are the work functions. DH's work function (which is always themed). For the first time this year I don't have to do anything (yippee) but... some lovely person who planned it has decreed a "White Christmas" theme. Venue is a bowling club (yes, bowling but a band too so that's OK) and you have to wear white. Alright for DH as he and the rest of the management team are going as ABBA. Which leaves me out in the cold thinking there is absolutely nothing white in my wardrobe and nothing I could imagine I could wear. I hate white. Any pointers (at this stage I am thinking of opting out and wearing jeans and some white angel wings!)

I with you on the bah humbug and normally I love Christmas! I guess I'm in the overwhelmed basket right now too.

You need one of those long frilly flowing 70's Abba dresses...

But I quite like Delys's idea - or at least the mask... a white opera mask thing? On a stick? With a white cape?

Ugh, I feel for you on the white theme. The angel sounds like a good idea!
I've been christmas shopping online this year (esp. with ferrit) makes it much easier.

yeah the angel is a great idea! I hear ya on the overwhelmed stuff Mel! And on top of all that we are meant to be in the 'Christmas spirit', know which spirit I'd prefer right now, the type in a glass with ice!
