WHAT SPEAKS TO YOU?

In a recent post Karen talks about songs with an empowerment message. She liked the words "suddenly I see".

Do words from songs ever jump out and speak to you? Some lines or phrases from songs have inspired whole campaigns. Like the "Beautiful Like a Rainbow" song that inspired the Dove campaign and a whole host of websites like this scrap one.

For a few months now powerful lines from two popular songs have really leapt out at me. One I love is from Maroon Five's 'She will be loved' - the lines go...

"It's not always rainbows and butterflies. It's compromise that moves us along."

And then there's "What have you done today to make you feel proud?" by Heather Small.

I got to know her song with that amazing line when it was used as the theme song for TV show The Biggest Loser. But it also became the official soundtrack for London's 2012 Olympic bid. In 2005 Heather made her US television debut performing Proud and then Oprah named it the new theme toher show. But for me it's enough to pull my socks up and get me on with that weight loss/exercise journey whenever I hear it.

So what song words or phrases inspire you?

Great post Mel, I am someone who loves music but often doesn't know the musician or the title of the song so I struggle with your question. I have an 'inspiring music' CJ to contribute to soon so I am writing down your songs because they are goodies :)

loving this post and I like the songs you shared. Yesterday I heard the kids learn a new song at school during singing which I quite like. Ugly- by the Sugarbabes. Very strong message.

Mel, Proud is the one song that brings up such emotions and spurs me along....I too saw it on Opera and loved it...

Even just thinking of the song i can feel tears well up in my eyes..

I love song lyrics because it's easy to evoke the emotion and remember the words when there's music with it. Great mood-swingers :)

I find a number of songs inspiring, hymns too, but I can't think of any right now! Doh! But I love it when I'm listening to something that inspires and I get goosebumps. Sometimes it's music without words that does that.

I go through stages with various artists. I have a large CD collection of Jazz/Blues, rock, easy listening it all goes on. This week I am playing Bacharach songs sung by Dionne Warwick and I keep wanting to play Walk on By at least twice a day! Life would be pretty sad without music.
