HOW MANY HOURS SLEEP?

How many hours sleep do you need?

Last night I had 5 hours sleep. 2 am - 7am. Not a usual situation. Brought about by a client function at Darryn 's work. But it got me thinking. My optimum is 9 hours sleep - 10pm-7am. That rarely happens. But I do usually get 8 hours. When my kids were little I worked out that I could function if I got 7 hours a night (albeit broken sleep). When I had my scrapbooking business (Tuatara Tales) I usually had 6 hours sleep! Not good.

I've noticed that when I read profiles of high achievers they appear to need less sleep than we mere mortals. Many CEO's I've talked to only seem to need 4-5 hours sleep.

What do you need?

Funny you should pose that question Mel cos I asked that question a few days ago on a forum. I need 6.5 to 7 hours per night. Two to three years ago I functioned on 4 to 5 hours and did that for over a year. Now I look back and I wonder how I did it.

I definitely need 8 hours :-) I don't handle lack of sleep very well. Sometimes I stay up too late at night ... but too many times in a week, and I'm noticeably *grouchy* LOL

More than I get. I think about 9 hours would be great but normally looking about 7 hours.

Well I'm obviously NEVER going to be the CEO cause if I'm not in bed by 10pm I really struggle getting up at 5.45. As most nights I don't get to be until 10.30, you can imagine that I usually stuggle Lol!

About 7 to 8 hours for me. Hubby only has 4-5 hours and so does DS. it amazes me! But about once a month they crash at 6pm!!! Bizarre!
Loved reading all the answers Mel!

I need 8! I can survive on shorter hours for a few nights but then get grumpy and have to go to bed early to catch up - LOL!

I so envy people who can stay up late and scrapbook or do craft work etc - I'd get so much more done if I could!

I used to be able to get by staying up late etc. But now... 7-8-9 hours of sleep would be good.

It's funny when we go camping. We go to bed not long after it gets dark (say 9pm) and wake when it's light around 7am. Seems like my body clock would like to run on that system.

I sound a little like Delys DH. Guess what time it is now?! 11.34pm. I'm rarely in bed before 11.30 and always awake by 6am. But I do need catch up sleep nights where I go to bed early (10pm). LOL. Interesting reading.
